HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2016) – Seminole Classic Casino and the American Cancer Society are teaming up to host a celebration for 150 local breast cancer survivors at the casino’s Hollywood Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The 50’s-themed reception is an opportunity for survivors to be recognized, celebrate life and feel a sense of community by gathering with others who have been impacted by breast cancer. Legendary disc jockey and performer Jerry Blavat, who has been a major influence in promoting oldies music on the radio, has donated his time to emcee this survivor event.
Seminole Classic Casino is the Silver Survivor Tent sponsor of American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides of Broward” walk, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Huizenga Park in Fort Lauderdale. More than 25,000 participants are expected to walk. Seminole Classic Casino has participated in the walk the past five years and has sponsored the Survivor Tent the past three.
This year 240,000 women and 2,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer, which knows no race, color, class, creed or gender. Just about everyone knows someone who has been touched by this dreadful disease. “Our desire to make a difference escalates each year. We want to play a more significant role in our community to help all those that have been affected by breast cancer,” said Larry Buck, General Manager of Seminole Classic Casino.
Seminole Classic Casino will be fundraising for the American Cancer Society through Oct. 31. Fundraising efforts are designed to engage the community and the casino’s team members through special events, property-wide initiatives and participation in the Making Strides walk.
On Sept. 23 team members raised $800 for American Cancer Society at a car wash. Team members are also raising funds by selling breast cancer awareness t-shirts, ties, suspenders and socks
“We are excited to assist our community and the American Cancer Society in its efforts to transform breast cancer from deadly to treatable and from treatable to preventable’.” Buck said.
Last year Seminole Classic Casino raised more than $20,000 and aims to raise $25,000 in 2016.
