Seminole Classic Casino Raises $25,000 for American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Broward County
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (November 11, 2015) – Seminole Classic Casino has raised $25,000 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month through its special events and property-wide initiatives. All proceeds collected were donated to American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Broward County. Larry Buck, General Manager of Seminole Classic Casino presented the check at the Making Strides of Broward wrap up party Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the Riverside hotel.
“Our team and players put in a lot of time and effort to help the men and women who have been affected by breast cancer,” Buck said. “We are all very passionate about this cause and will continue to do what we can to help find a cure for our community.”
On Sept. 28, the casino teamed up with the American Cancer Society to host a pink carpet celebration for 150 local breast cancer survivors at the casino’s Hollywood Hall. The event featured food and an opportunity for survivors to be recognized, celebrate life and feel a sense of community by gathering with others who have been impacted by breast cancer.
Throughout the month, several table games were decorated with pink accents and remade in pink felts. Pink bingo daubers were sold in the bingo hall and pink pole banners flew along State Road 7 to show support. From Sept. 21 to Oct. 31, the Player’s Club accepted donations for the Wall of Hope. Guests who donated $1 had their name featured on the Wall, and those who donated $10 or more received a complimentary breast cancer awareness T-shirt. The casino’s food & beverage department also donated $1 from every “Julie’s Famous Rum Punch” cocktail sold throughout October. Casino guests were invited to participate in a special slot tournament Tuesday, Oct. 27 in which Buck donated $10 per participant.
Team members lead the charge with the casinos fundraising efforts. They were able to purchase an assortment of breast cancer awareness items from the human resources department including a limited edition 2015 Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirt was worn every Friday from Sept. 25 to Oct. 30. Sweet treats were also sold by team members on Fridays in October with 100% of the proceeds added to the overall donation.
The casino ended the month-long fundraising efforts by participating as a team in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Huizenga Park in Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 31. The casino was a silver sponsor, sponsored the survivor tent and donated an additional $20 on behalf of every walker on its team.
